Names of Butleigh Primary School to live underground for the next 100 years

Pupils of Butleigh Church of England Primary School were invited to sign a water pipe which will now remain underground for the next 100 years.

The pipe turned time capsule comes as part of Bristol Water’s water main replacement work in the area to improve the water supply, fulfilled by Lewis Civil Engineering.

Matt Bridge, Project Manager for Bristol Water’s contract partners, Lewis Civil Engineering, said: “It is important to engage children in what is happening around them, and with the mains replacement works so close to the school, it made sense to get them involved. As well as learning about water and construction, we had lots of great questions, like why we wear steel capped boots.”

Elaine Cosser, senior teacher at Butleigh C of E Primary School, said: “Our children really enjoyed putting their own personal message on the huge water pipe that will be in the ground outside their primary school for the next hundred years. Huge thank you Bristol water for the water workshops you shared with each year group of the school.”

The water supply for Butleigh comes from Cheddar Water Treatment Works in the Mendips. The new pipe will ensure a reliable water supply for the village for years to come, while also improving on odour, colour and taste.
